Liposuction in India – All You Wanted to Know

Liposuction in India

There are many areas on our body that have disproportionate contours owing to localized fat deposits. Liposuction or Lipoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that reshapes and recontours specific target areas of the body by removing excess bulging fat deposits. Liposuction removes stubborn fat deposits from thighs, hips, inner knees, calves, ankles, waist, back, arms, chest, chin and cheeks. Liposuction may be performed with other cosmetic procedures such as tummy tuck, breast lift or facial rejuvenation. The candidates for liposuction are those who are above 18 years of age and are physically and mentally healthy with realistic expectations from the surgery.

Liposuction procedure and Types

Liposuction procedure is performed under general or local anaesthesia depending upon the patient’s preference and surgeon’s choice. Following anaesthesia, small incisions are made inconspicuously on the target areas. The sterile liquid solution is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma and then a thin hollow tube or cannula is inserted through the incisions. The fat is dislodged in a controlled manner and suctioned out using a syringe.

The other names for liposuction are – Lipoplasty, liposculpture or suction lipectomy. There are various a technique by which liposuction is done, for instance – Tumescent liposuction, Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL), Vaser Liposuction, Body Jet Liposuction.

Super wet technique: The procedure involves injecting a local anesthetic and adrenaline into the target tissue. The solution results in break up and removal of fat deposits. The extra fluid also helps in minimizing trauma to the surrounding tissue thereby reducing swelling and post-operative pain.

Tumescent Liposuction: This technique is similar to super wet technique except that this method uses large amounts of injected liquid solution. The outcomes of Tumescent Liposuction are similar to those associated with “super-wet” liposuction.

Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL): The treatment modality used in Ultrasound – Assisted Liposuction is “super-wet” or “tumescent” liposuction. UAL uses sound waves to liquefy fat deposits following injection of fluids. The sound waves break – up the fat deposits and minimize trauma resulting in less bruising and blood loss.

Dry Liposuction: This liposuction technique is not frequently used today. This early method of liposuction required general anesthesia and was absent of a liquefying agent.
Liposuction abdomen is among the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries. The procedure is especially useful for those who have not been able to budge the fat which is resistant to diet or exercise.
