Breast Augmentation with Stem Cells – Methods, Procedure and Costs

Breast Augmentation with Stem Cells

Breast augmentation is one of the most sought after cosmetic surgery procedures in recent times. With more than 316,000 procedures performed in 2011, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has ranked Breast Augmentation to be the second most sought after cosmetic surgery procedures. Although the procedure is on a rise these days but breast enhancement has seen a new shift from breast implantation surgery to breast augmentation with stem cells.

Breast augmentaton with fat transfer
This revolutionary form of breast augmentation technique is chosen by women who dream of a natural looking and permanent breast augmentation. Stem cell breast augmentation uses stem-cell enriched autologous fat, also known as stem-cell assisted lipotransfer (CAL) without using silicone and other artificial fillers. The procedure is in great demands owing to the manifold benefits of the surgery, to name a few – no scarring, no general anaesthesia and no negative effects on natural breast function. There are no ethic issues involved with the surgery since it involves stem cell transfer from the body’s own tissue or autologous tissue.

The stem cell harvesting is a special procedure that involves suctioning of fat from various body regions to transfer the cells to the breasts for breast augmentation. The suctioning of fat from different body regions thus works in two ways (a) it improves body silhouette and (b) it gives natural breast augmentation.

Methods of Stem cell Breast Augmentation

The basis of stem cell breast augmentation is the transfer of autologous fat to the breast tissue. The different methods of stem cell breast augmentation are:

a)      Stem cell-enriched autologous fat

The stem cells are extracted from a portion of autologous fat in the laboratory and are added to the remaining body fat. With this method, long term breast volume, about ca. 90 to 95 %, of breast volume is retained.

b)      Stem cell-concentrated autologous fat

Prior to implantation, autologous fat is concentrated so as to increase the number of viable cells per unit volume. With this technique, ca. 40 to 80% of long term breast volume is retained.

c) Standard Liposuction

In this technique, untreated autologous fat is implanted without changing the stem cell content. This procedure helps in retention of ca.20 to 40% long term breast volume with an optimal-tissue conserving method.

Procedure of Stem Cell Breast Enhancement

Breast Augmentation with autologous fat is generally perfomed under local anaesthesia. Stem cell breast augmentation is a three step procedure and the steps of the procedure are mentioned below:

a)      Liposuction – The body fat is liposuctioned from buttocks, hips and thighs and other body regions. Liposuction is performed with high quality regular or micro cannulas. The advantage of this method is dual – one, it re-contours other body parts and second, it enhances the breast size.

b)      Stem cell enrichment – Stem cells are extracted from a part of extracted fat cells. They are extracted in the laboratory with a specialized technology.

c)      Stem Cell Implantation in the breast tissue – Extracted stem cells along with the specially prepared body fat are injected into the breasts.

Natural breast augmentation is performed under local anaesthesia and takes about 2 hours for liposuction followed by fat transfer which takes another 2 hour to perform the surgery. The potential enlargement of breasts depends upon how large the large the body’s fat deposits are and the accommodation volume of the breasts. For instance, greater volume of fat can be transplanted in the flabbier breast tissue and for tauter breasts, pre-stretching of breasts is advisable prior to fat transfer.

The technique is suited for women who have lost their breast because of nursing or weight loss. The procedure helps in enhancing the breast size from one half to two cup sizes. If an individual does not get the desired size, subsequent interventions are done to achieve the desired breast size. Thus breast augmentation with stem cell is a highly advantageous procedure.
