Total Hip Replacement (THR) – It is done in cases of primary or secondary osteoarthritis. In THR, the damaged bone and cartilage are removed and replaced with prosthetic components.

Q – How painful would my recovery be after the surgery?

A – There would be some pain while recovering after a hip replacement procedure which would be well taken care of by medication. An epidural cathether, pain killers and analgesic patches are used to control pain.

Q – How long shall I be bed-ridden after hip replacement?

A – For only a day or two, you would be bed-ridden after your hip replacement. You would be able to walk with a walker third day onwards.

Q – How long it will take me to completely recover after a hip replacement surgery?

A – For first 1 or 2 days, you will be advised only to move in bed. Third day onwards you would be able to walk with a walker. Your stitches would be removed after 2 weeks and you would be able to walk without any help after 4-5 weeks. By One and a half to 2 months, you would be able to get back to driving a car.

Q – How long shall a replaced hip last?
