Parts of Dental Implant
A dental implant can be best understood as an artificial "tooth root", which is planted at the site of missing tooth to be covered with the crown to give a natural looking tooth. Not only they look natural, but they also work like natural teeth as well.

Simply put, the dental implant is a screw made of titanium, which is placed into the jawbone to replicate the root of a missing natural tooth. It gives a strong foundation where missing teeth can be placed or crowned to give a natural appearance of the teeth.

It is a great alternative to dentures or bridges that don’t fit really well.

Dental Implants are indicated as a treatment option for individuals who need replacement of a single tooth, several teeth or all teeth.

It is considered to be the best treatment method to restore missing teeth in today’s world. It is extremely competent in terms of both functionality and aesthetics.

Dental Implants can be used as a regular treatment for the complete set of dental problems ranging from replacing one tooth to the rehabilitation of the whole mouth.

All in 4 Implants

A cost-effective way to replace several teeth is opting for all on 4 dental implants. They are a permanent set of teeth that look and feel like natural teeth. The advantage is that it requires a shorter treatment time, and is cost effective. How are dental implants placed?

The process of Placing Dental Implants

How dental implant surgery is done depends majorly on the condition of your jawbone. Because the major advantage of the implant is good support for your new teeth, which requires the bone around the implant to heal well, the process takes time.

The majority of the time is taken for the bone to heal before the abutment and the crown are placed on the implant.

Bone Grafting Before Implant is Placed

The implant treatment is normally divided into 2 stages, with an interval of 4-6 months between the two stages:
  • The first stage involves removal of the damaged tooth (if the tooth has to be removed) and the jaw bone is prepared. You may or may not require bone grafting. If the bone graft is needed, the jaw bone is allowed to heal for 1-2 weeks before the implant is placed, which requires one to two sittings (7-10 days stay required in India if you are a medical tourist)
You can then go back to your country for the implant to fuse well with the bone, which may take 4-6 months. Your doctor would cap the implant with a temporary crown which is not functional. The second visit to India is then required to place the abutment and the crown.
  • The second stage involves the placement of the abutment (which is sometimes done during the first stage also depending on the condition of your bone) and the artificial tooth, or crown (7 to 10 days stay required in India). Your new tooth is now fully functional.
In some cases, where the dental surgeon feels that your implant is quite stable and can take the load of the abutment and crown, the same is done in the first stage itself to save your time and money.

However, the decision for fully loaded implants rests with the surgeon and should not be rushed for the wellbeing of your new tooth.
